The Second Chakra by Kristy Kirkland

Kristy Kirkland is at this time a student of Ayurvedic Medicine and an avid practitioner of yoga and meditation.

Within the human body there are seven energy centers called chakras. Chakra is a concept likely to be familiar to anyone who has studied yoga. This concept has been studied and lived by Indians and others for thousands of years. Western medicine is just now discovering and accepting the concept. Charts of the chakras can be seen in any yoga center and in books about yoga. Go here for some general information about chakras.

Chakras are perceived to be circles located along the midline of the body in line with the spinal chord (Godagama, 1996, Page 52). The first chakra (Muladhara) is the at the base of the spine, the second chakra (Svadhisthana or Swadhisthana) lies in the sacral region, the third chakra (Manipura) is located at the solar plexus, or just above the navel, the fourth chakra (Anahata) is located at heart level, the fifth chakra (Vishuddha) is situated in the neck, the sixth chakra (Ajna) is right between the eyebrows, the third eye point, and the seventh chakra (Sahasrara) does not have a physical position and is located just above the head.

The second chakra is a lotus shown as having six petals, white in color, and with a crescent in the center, representing water. Another word for the second chakra is Svadhishtana Chakra (Sex Center), and the definition is "self abode" (Halpern, 2005, Page 285). This chakra corresponds to the element water and is traditionally associated with the sexual impulses and sexual energy, or is the original subtle energy behind the sexual impulse.

Good book!! How can 100,000 readers go wrong??: This was my first book on the Chakra system and to be quite frankly it has been one of those books I always go back to look for references. My personal opinion is that Anodea Judith, PhD, has done an excellent

book, both for the beginner in working and understanding the Chakras as well as the advanced.

Each chapter is dedicated to a particular Chakra. You will learn, the Sanskrit name to each Chakra, it's meaning, location, Element, Function, Inner State, Outer State, Body Parts, color, Mantra sound, Hindu Deity, as well as other deities from other pantheons. Also each chapter has a meditation on that particular Chakra as well as Yoga exercises to harness that particular Chakra to your favor. I have been directed to other books, because people say that there are better books out there. But to be honest this book for beginners is simple and right to the point. Anodea Judith, PhD writing is down to earth, and direct. Think about it, how can 100,000 readers go wrong? If you are looking for your first book on Chakras, you will not go wrong here. This is a good book, full of a wealth of information. -- Reviewer: V. Shaman (Lowell, Ma)

Just above the pubic bone is where the second chakra is believed to be located. The physical opening of the chakra is stated to be the urethra. Organs of the second chakra are perceived to be; the uterus, ovaries, the vagina, the cervix, the large intestine, the lower vertebrae, the pelvis, the appendix, and the bladder (Northrup, 1998, Pages 82 - 87).

When energy is not flowing smoothly through this chakra, the water systems of the body are affected, most notably the organs; the prostate gland, the testes, and ovaries. Hence this chakra is also called the "sex center" (Halpern, 2005, Page 285). Gynecological problems, such as fibroid tumors, can result as well (Tiwari, 2000, Page 147 - 148). Some other physical dysfunctions caused by blocked energy in the second chakra are; OB / GYN problems, pelvic / lower back pain, creative inability, sexual potency, urinary problems, and appendicitis (Northrup, 1998, Pages 82 - 87).

To validate and support the wisdom of the second chakra are studies done by medical professionals. The studies of Dr. Gloria Backmann indicate that childhood sexual abuse is associated with eating disorders, obesity, and somatic complaints in the genitourinary system, as well as substance abuse and other self - destructive behaviors. Studies by Dr. Robert Reiter and others have found that previous sexual abuse is a significant predisposing risk factor for chronic pelvic pain. Fibroids, endometriosis, diseases of the ovaries, and other pelvic disorders are manifestations of blocked energy in the pelvis. In a misogynist culture, in which 40% of women are sexual abuse survivors and one in three gets physically raped, it's not hard to figure out how this happens (Northrup, 1998, Pages 82 - 87). For every problem there is a solution.

The color associated in healing the chakra is orange and the mantra, a word chanted as an incantation, to heal this chakra is 'VAM' (Dr. Ram Tamang, Personal Communication, September 23, 2006). With knowledge of the root cause of disease one can then take a look at their life and create health. Having a regular daily sadhna, or practice, is another way of healing. This is done by setting the intention of having time for healing, health, balance, or anything that feels comfortable.

Yoga helps to heal all chakras and there are many poses to bring them back into balance. Yoga should be done with an instructor when first starting out until one feels comfortable to do it on their own. Standing yoga postures are great for healing the second chakra. A few are; Prasarita Padottanasana (standing spread leg forward bend), Upavishta Konasana (sitting spread leg forward bend), Bado Konasana (soles of the feet together sitting forward bend), and Supta Bado Konasana (Reclining Bado Konasana) (Stokes, 2002).

Carolyn Myss stated, "The second chakra's truth is "honor one another". The lessons of this chakra are learning to act with integrity and honor in all of our relationships. When we violate this law we literally block the flow of energy through and to that chakra." And so healing a relationship with a mate, or any significant relationship, can open a blocked second chakra.

Celibacy & Transmutation of Sexual Energy

Just as humankind has learned to master and control many natural forces in the world, a yogi (or yogini) is a very special (and unfortunately rare) individual who's inclination is to control and master the inner forces of nature, such as thoughts, emotions, cravings, and desires, especially the biological force of sexual energy. The yogi or yogini manages to successfully master his or her emotions and sexual energy not by force, but through purification of brain and body cells and then by absorption of vital prana. The transmutation of sex into inner peace, bliss, joy and love is the wonderful end result. One of the greatest mysteries of life is sex, sexual desire, and sexual energy. However, when sexual energy is lost in the process of reproductive activity, the spiritual life suffers. This Kindle ebook is now available on Amazon through the following link: Celibacy & Transmutation of Sexual Energy

Psychologically, the chakra is responsible for desire, attachment, and feeling. When it functions in its ordinary state, a person desires that which is pleasurable and brings about good feelings. When this ordinary flow increases through the chakra, a person becomes desirous, craving more and more pleasure. When this ordinary flow is decreased through the chakra, a person lacks desire, motivation, and devotion (Halpern, 2005, Page 285). This chakra also represents emotions such as desire, anger and lust.

As one grows into the second chakra, their sensory perceptions develop, and they begin to experience their individuality and sexuality. Individuals often get caught up within the dark waters of deception and false perception. Many people become stuck within the second chakra terrain in their pursuit of gratification through sexual encounters, relationships, or the pursuit of money and power (Tiwari, 2000, Page 147 - 148).

Mental and emotional issues of the second chakra are; balanced drives in the outer world towards sex, money, and relationships. Capacity to co - create with others. Fertility and generativity. Relationship dynamics of the second chakra include; dependency vs. independence, giving and taking, defined boundaries vs. poor boundaries, assertiveness vs. passivity (Northrup, 1998, Pages 82 - 87).

According to ancient teaching, the aim should be to enable a type of energy called kundalini to move from the lowest chakra to the highest to promote spirituality and divine knowledge (Godagama, 1996, Page 52). This is most known to be done through practicing yoga and meditation and explains why one feels balanced and healthful in doing so. Spiritually, this chakra's energy can be turned into infinite joy and unconditional love (Halpern, 2005, Page 285).

Indian teachings place a lot of emphasis on celibacy, in order to raise and transmute this powerful sexual energy to the brain, to achieve higher consciousness. This is actually the basic principle behind celibacy in all religions, including Catholicism. In practice however, this noble ideal can flounder, if the individual is not yet ready to renounce physical sex. The individual may become psychologically unbalanced, full of guilt, or turn to pedophilia or other unnatural forms of sex.

A life of indulgence and irreverence makes it difficult to move on to the next plateau, yet once this difficult crossing has been achieved, one becomes familiar with the vibration of their ascending consciousness (Tiwari, 2000, Page 147 - 148).

This area is both literally and figuratively creative space, out of which women can produce babies, relationships, careers, novels, insights, and other creative or artistic works. It is also concerned with the day - to - day physical aspects of living, with people to whom one relates, and with the quality of relationships (Northrup, 1998, Pages 82 - 87).

Carried within its vibratory field, the second chakra has the primal feminine force of procreation, called shakti - prana. This chakra reveals the early stages of one's inner sound, the energy of this chakra generally reflects the murky, unresolved conditions of the elemental human affairs to which relates: money, sex, power (Tiwari, 2000, Page 147 - 148).

It is no wonder the concept of chakras have lasted for thousands of years and been believed by many people. Ayurveda is a way of life in India and holds the goal of having health in the seven chakras by creating balance between the body, mind, and spirit. With this awareness and knowledge, one can grow and begin to understand the significance of life in his or her own individual way.

Demythologizing Celibacy: Practical Wisdom from Christian and Buddhist Monasticism by William Skudlarek - Editorial Review - He expands the terrain to benefit from the lived tradition of celibacy in centuries-old Buddhist monasticism. A major contribution is the encouraging of an awareness of the importance for healthy celibate living of paying attention to one's thought world and not just to the control of behavior." -- Rt. Rev. Abbot Jerome Kodell, OSB, Subiaco Abbey, Subiaco, Arizona

Product Description - In light of the Christian understanding of marriage as an authentic--indeed, the ordinary--path to holiness, Skudlarek proposes a demythologized view of celibacy, presenting it as an alternate and equally valid spiritual practice for those who choose not to accept the demands of a committed sexual relationship. Drawing on the monastic interreligious dialogue, Skudlarek considers the Buddhist view of celibacy, their regard for it as simply--and profoundly--a path to freedom, peace, and happiness. As Christians become aware of the benefits of celibacy for monks who observe it without reference to the Gospel, they may be able to appreciate all the more its importance and value for those who wish to follow Christ as celibates, and in this way come to share in the freedom of the children of God.

Celibacy is a worldwide practice that is often adopted, rarely discussed. Now, in Elizabeth Abbott's fascinating and wide-ranging history, it is examined in all its various forms: shaping religious lives, conditioning athletes and shamans, surfacing in classical poetry and camp literature, resonating in the voices of castrati, and perme-ating ancient mythology. Found in every society of the past, practiced by both the anonymous and the legendary (St. Catherine, Joan of Arc, Leonardo da Vinci, Elizabeth I, Gandhi), celibacy has as many stories as adherents, and Abbott weaves them into a provocative, seamless tapestry that brings history alive.

About the Author - Elizabeth Abbott has a Ph.D. in history and is Dean of Women at Trinity College, University of Toronto. She is the author of several books and lives in Toronto.

Women, Passion & Celibacy by Sally Cline - Editorial Reviews - From Library Journal - Writing 20 years ago in The Total Woman , Marabel Morgan advocated that wives meet their husbands at the door draped in cellophane wrap, drink in hand. Morgan stands in stark contrast to Cline ( Just Desserts: Women and Food , Trafalgar, 1990), who counters that sex and coupledom no longer represent the yardstick by which women gauge their self-worth. Her battle cry is for passionate celibacy--a move of conscious choice away from the sexual and material roles imposed upon women. Celibacy is an issue of preference rather than an accident or something imposed by the "genital mythmakers" (read: dominant male society). Cline is remarkably dogmatic in her criticism of authoritative male culture. Yet her points are well taken as to the passion, productivity, and solitude of spirit that can be the fruits of such a decision. An extensive bibliography and good footnotes provide a solid foundation for this work. Cline contributes new information and insights for feminist, religious, and historical scholarship. --Sandra Collins, SLIS, Univ. of Pittsburgh Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist - Cline's interviews with women in Great Britain and North America reveal a variety of motivations for celibacy. She disputes the view that intimate interpersonal relations are the primary source of happiness, and she examines new, celibate styles of independence and the ways in which they change relations between men and women and contribute to women's creative enterprises and spiritual growth. "Passionate celibacy," she concludes, "is a form of female sexuality . . . which allows women to define themselves autonomously. .Ø20.Ø20. It is a form of sexual practice without the power struggles of a sexually active relationship." A good addition for women's issues collections. --Whitney Scott

IS CELIBACY OUTDATED? by Ida Friederike Gorres - Product Description - No information availible for this book.

A History of Celibacy : From Athena to Elizabeth I, Leornardo Da Vinci, Florence Nightingale, Gandhi and Cher by Elizabeth Abbott - Editorial Review - "And you thought celibacy could only be dull, unimpassioned stuff. Elizabeth Abbott has written the definitive history of a subject most of us want nothing to do with, and it's a fascinating, lively and moving tome indeed ... Abbott takes us into the lives of celibates, both willing and forced, noble and deluded, throughout history and across continent and cultures. A stimulating book." McGill News "A juicy insightful survey, as readable as it is intellectually sophisticated, alternately witty and moving. Abbott documents a thousand shades of motive for saying no to sex. She manages to describe extreme behavior without sinking into either anachronistic psychologizing or valueless relativism. It's a remarkably effective approach to a topic that might easily inspire jokes or judgement." Village Voice Literary Supplement "Celibacy seems an odd topic for a witty and compelling book, but Elizabeth Abbott manages to make her subject fascinating." Bookpage.com "A History of Celibacy explores the full length of that fascinating shadow, tracing the history of self-containment from the mythical virgins of the Greeks and Romans to a new celibacy in the age of AIDS, with stops along the way to examine such strange fauna as Leonardo da Vinci and Mahatma Gandhi, John Ruskin and Joan of Arc." Elle "Based on a great deal of knowledge but told with grace, wit and a wry sense of the conditions under which women live. Abbott seems to have read just about everything ever written on her chosen subject. This is a bulky book but not difficult to read and its pleasures are many. Elizabeth Abbott appends an astute select bibliography that runs to 22 pages, providing a further reason for buying her book." The Globe and Mail (Canada) "Elegantly chronicles expressions of celibacy through the ages." Elm Street (Canada) "A History of Celibacy is a fresh take on the history of sex which is perhaps why this juicy tome was a surprise best seller in Canada." Entertainment Weekly "Ambitious and wide-ranging ... she make a convincing case that throughout much of history celibacy, was an attractive option for women." --The New Yorker

Product Description - Joan of Arc was one. So was Sir Isaac Newton. A monk vows to be one. A prisoner has no choice. History tells of many avowed celibates, and today's society reflects a renewed interest in celibacy. But what causes people to give up sex, the very activity that drives, fascinates, troubles, and delights so many of the rest of us? Elizabeth Abbott's exploration of celibacy debunks the traditionally held notion that celibacy is a predominantly religious concept of little concern to the secular world. Chosen or imposed for myriad reasons, celibacy actually is a practice that reveals a host of telling insights about our sexual desires and drives, as well as our changing attitudes toward religion, gender, and physical health. "A History of Celibacy" humanises celibacy through the ages, from the vestal virgins of ancient Rome who were entombed alive if they broke their vows, to contemporary athletes who 'conserve semen' to enhance their game. While most people associate institutional celibacy with Catholicism, Abbott shows how virtually every culture and religion through history has incorporated it in some form. Her examples range from Judaism's rules regarding abstinence during menstruation to Hinduism's forced celibacy for widows. Written from a feminist perspective, the book paints a dual portrait of celibacy as both emancipator and enslaver of women and the poor. Yet the book's focus is not solely on women. It recounts for instance the forced castration of Italy's young male sopranos, and tells why impoverished Chinese boys and men became eunuchs for the Emperor. The extremes to which people will go to abstain from sexual activity or to prevent others from having sex is an intriguing thread through a serious book.

Experience of Celibacy by Keith Clark - Product Description - A creative reflection on intimacy, loneliness, sexuality and commitment.

She arrived in Los Angeles on a Monday, started attending Crenshaw Christian Center on that following Sunday, became filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, "got wrapped up, tied up tangled up", in the word of God.Ê She began to zealously, "oops" spread the gospel, actually leading some to Christ, laying hands on the sick, yes to see some recover, and developing her music ministry, and with that has come even more people, getting physically, emotionally, and mentally healed. Miss Bagnerise has attended "Zoe Christian Fellowship Leadership Training Program" (phase one and phase two) to clarify her God given purpose. She continued her preparation at "Crenshaw Christian Center, Ministry Training Institute" to complete the two year program in June.ÊAfter becoming active with "God In Our Midst" Ministries, ministering in music and teaching/preaching, was now qualified and did become licensed, by Crenshaw Christian Center, effective, March of 2000. Shortly after her graduation, she wrote this book Celibacy =Life and Spirit Lead Shopping.ÊShe says the Lord gave her the title of "songtrepeneur" (meaning, singer, entrepeneur), which is encompassing of all that God has called her to do. Carla heard that still small voice, one day say, your purpose is to "disciple, mentor and groom female leaders." Miss Bagnerise is presently unmarried, with the expectation, of embarking upon a "beautiful marriage in the Lord, that is full of life . . . Zoe (the most high God kind of life)!

The Cult of the Born-Again Virgin: The New Sexual Revolution by Wendy Keller - Editorial Reviews - From Publishers Weekly - The concept is not a new one: Eve practiced celibacy until the snake tempted her into trading the Garden of Eden for sexual delights; Queen Elizabeth I held on to her virginity as if her kingdom depended on it. All well and good in more repressed times, but is celibacy a reasonable lifestyle choice for women of the sexually liberated 21st century? It may seem like a hard sell, but Keller, a former newspaper and magazine journalist, offers compelling reasons for women to take a break from sexual relations. Calling upon her own experiences and those of women across the country who have not found contentment or joy in their relationships, she details how both short-term and permanent abstinence commonly lead to new confidence and self-esteem. Contending that "tak[ing] sex off one's activity list and put[ting] it on the list of what is revered" enhances one's sense of personal power, control over one's sexuality and the ability to focus on goals (including attracting a better mate)--and also allows more time for nurturing oneself, developing one's spirituality and improving one's health and finances--Keller may overstate the potential benefits. Still, most people experience times when concentrating on these areas while putting sex aside would be a smart move. Although becoming a BAV may not appeal to most women at first, reading this apparently radical but well-argued book may spur many to rethink their initial response. (Feb.) Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Product Description - This groundbreaking book recounts a phenomenon that is sweeping the nation among single women: choosing abstinence or celibacy. The reasons for this choice varies from woman to woman--from abandoning the treadmill of dating and relationships, to focusing on a career or lifelong dream, to returning to core values, to exploring spirituality more deeply, to achieving a sense of inner balance. Whatever the reason, the choice inevitably results in her taking better care of herself and reclaiming her innate personal power.

The author interviewed a number of single women, all under the age of forty-five, attractive and intelligent, and, for the most part, highly educated and particularly successful in their individual careers. Instead of expressing bitterness, loneliness or despair, these "Born-Again Virgins" (as the author has termed them) embody and exude personal power, confidence, fulfillment, contentment and joy. While this book is not about not having sex, it is about showing readers that they have the right to choose whether or not to have sex, that they have the right to choose to abstain for a day, a week, a month, a year or a lifetime--and that they are not alone in exercising this right.

This book will show readers why becoming "Born-Again Virgins" is the right choice for so many single women. Whether they initially choose abstinence in response to STDs and AIDS or to the low value often placed on marriage and monogamy, as a result of the choice, these women find themselves healing the residual pain of past issues and discovering what brings them true fulfillment and inner peace.

The Cult of the Born-Again Virgin will provide countless readers with the support and encouragement to make a life-affirming choice that will permanently transform their lives and themselves--for the better. Through firsthand accounts of real-life "Born-Again Virgins," readers will learn the events that acted as catalysts for choosing abstinence, the repercussions of the choice, the effects on self-esteem, various ways to actually deal with abstinence or celibacy on a daily basis, the effects on relationships and how to handle resuming sexual activity.

This candid, intimate, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant book will teach all readers how to reclaim their souls by reclaiming their bodies. It is a book for all single-women readers and it will become a treasured source of validation, support, encouragement and comfort to them along their journeys of self-awareness, discovery and transformation.

Peace Between the Sheets: Healing with Sexual Relationships by Marnia Robinson - Editorial Reviews - "I experienced one 'Aha' after another as I read Peace Between the Sheets. Marnia Robinson's book is entertaining, enlightening, and timely. The hypothesis that orgasm fosters separation fascinated me both personally and professionally. The Ecstatic Exchanges would seem to benefit most relationships, and be particularly helpful for those recovering from sexual addiction and the trauma of sexual abuse." --A.J. Reid Finlayson, M.D., Division of Addiction Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

"As a matchmaker who runs several dating agencies I only wish I could make Peace Between the Sheets compulsory reading for all people seeking a new relationship." --Mary Balfour, author of Smart Dating

Product Description - Based on the author's twelve-year inquiry into why relationships fail, Peace Between the Sheets offers a simple but revolutionary analysis: modern relationships often founder because of dysfunctional sexual habits. But when couples shift away from "heat-centered" toward "heart-centered" sexual interactions, they gain a mutual satisfaction that transcends physical gratification. Robinson advocates teaching the body a different response to sexual arousal that is driven by love over biology. The benefits include reducing stress, rejuvenating the body, helping overcome addictions, and developing a positive outlook. Over two parts, "Why" and "How," the book devotes twelve chapters to topics like "Why do We Fall Out of Love?," "Outwitting Biology," "Want to Try It?," and "The Ecstatic Exchanges." Peace Between the Sheets tackles a delicate issue with sound reasoning, solid research, and a healthy dose of humor.

Transcendent Sex: When Lovemaking Opens the Veil by Jenny Wade - Editorial Reviews - From Publishers Weekly - Claiming that lovemaking can be a path to soulful realization, developmental psychologist Wade explores "one of the best-kept secrets in human history" in this study of ordinary people's spontaneous spiritual awakenings through transcendent sex. Drawing heavily from the well-articulated, first-hand accounts of nearly 100 respondents (specifically chosen for their lack of any spiritual framework or ideology to explain the episodes), the author repeatedly offers historical, religious and cultural traditions as a background, and context for readers' understanding of her arguments. Though not a how-to book per se, Wade's volume broaches the myriad shapes mystical sex may take, including animal possession, time travel, out-of-body experiences, past life regression and even enlightenment, and it provides warnings on the down side of altered state sex (dangerous liaisons and overwhelming intimacy) and suggestions for facilitating transcendent sex. Despite the fact most of those interviewed had only a one-time experience, the long-term effects on their lives often proved profound and healing. Wade's unique subject matter, and her openness with the research data, should make this a welcome addition to the spirituality/self-help genre. Will Our Love Last?: A Couple's Road Map by Sam R. Hamburg and Sam R. Hamburg PH.D. - Editorial Reviews - From Publishers Weekly - Quietly disputing the "men are from Mars" theory, psychologist Hamburg argues that the key to a satisfying marriage lies in choosing the right partner based on compatibility in three areas: on a practical level, sexually and in "wavelength." His thoughtful explanation of why he believes mutual understanding is more important in marriage than communication or hard work is illustrated with examples from his own practice and peppered with questions aimed at helping readers assess their compatibility with their partners. Among the practical considerations he discusses are attitudes about earning and spending money, maintaining a household, managing leisure time and dealing with family members. The section on sexuality surveys sexual style, interest and comfort level, while the "wavelength dimension" covers values, aspirations and spiritual orientation. Hamburg does not suggest that each person find a clone; he simply emphasizes the importance of assessing the ways in which a potential partner conforms with or differs from oneself. While his notion of "optimizing" a relationship has a slightly academic ring, he also recommends some offbeat exercises, such as a series of hand-rotations designed to help partners define compatibility. He also offers straight-up traditional wisdom that's often overlooked in the throes of attraction: get to know a potential partner in a variety of circumstances, get rid of partners who project bad vibes or present unpleasant situations. Writing in an amiably paternal, workmanlike style, Hamburg proffers realistic and sensible advice. Agent, Candice Fuhrman. No one has ever talked about tantra with such clarity, coherence and simplicity. -- Religious Studies Review --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description - According to Buddhism, every human being has the potential to achieve profound and lasting happiness. And according to the tantric teachings of Buddhism, this remarkable transformation can be realized very quickly if we utilize all aspects of our human energy, especially the energy of our desires. Introduction to Tantra is the best available clarification of a subject that is often misunderstood. This new edition of the classic text includes a new foreword by Philip Glass and new cover art, but leaves untouched Lama Yeshe's excellent original text, edited by Jonathan Landaw. Tantra recognizes that the powerful energy aroused by our desire is an indispensable resource for the spiritual path. It is precisely because our lives are so inseparably linked with desire that we must make use of desire's tremendous energy not just for pleasure, but to transform our lives. Lama Yeshe presents tantra as a practice leading to joy and self-discovery, with a vision of reality that is simple, clear, and extremely relevant to 21st-century life.

Tantra: Path of Ecstasy by Georg Feuerstein - Editorial Reviews - Amazon.com Review Consider for a moment that the Dalai Lama is a tantric adept, and those visions of sexual bliss that the word "tantra" conjures up quickly dissolve. Tantra is more than the sex play of popular articles and books. Georg Feuerstein, authority of the yogic traditions, conjures up a much richer world of Hindu cosmology, philosophy, and theology. Tantra is a form of devotionalism, in which ritual sounds, gestures, and actions figure prominently. Reverence of the guru as god also plays a part, but Feuerstein tempers our suspicion by repeating the admonitions of tantric texts down through the ages to choose carefully. As much prudence must also go into reflection on the disciple's own person, who engages in strict yogic discipline designed to conquer the six enemies: desire, anger, greed, delusion, pride, and envy. Feuerstein draws on the ancient texts to describe the tantric path in great detail, including realization of the subtle body, directing energy through the chakras, and, yes, sex. Taken together, tantra becomes a vivid, multifaceted path to self-realization. --Brian Bruya

From Publishers Weekly - Feuerstein has attempted a daunting task, defining Tantric Yoga drawn from Hindu and not Tibetan Buddhist sources. To do this, he has assembled a wide-ranging compendium of Hindu, Tantric and Shaivite texts almost impossible to find in one place elsewhere. To plunge into this book is to find yourself rushing down the sacred River Ganges through the heart of India. Like a sophisticated travelogue, it brings into sharp focus the rich tapestry of the Indian ecstatic life and the exotic practices of Tantric Yoga that take place, metaphorically, on the banks of this Queen of rivers. The inner eye is challenged with mystical beasts bathing in the waters; holy men daubed in ashes undertaking bizarre and often previously never-before-seen Tantric rituals; the inner ear is filled with the rhythmic, pulsating chant of Om, and all its associated Sanskrit sounds; the senses are awash with meditative visions. It is a passage through Indian spiritual life that may be too sophisticated for the casual tourist, although for those who have passed this way before, it is a comprehensive and provocative commentary on the basic and advanced precepts of Tantric yoga. Written with literate modesty and erudition, this book is an invaluable resource. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Anytime...for as Long as You Want: Strength, Genius, Libido & Erection by Integrative Sex Transmutation by Charles Runels - Product Description - From once every 2 weeks to every day. Thank you very much! -- Jerry S., Mobile, AL

I gave the CD to my husband. One week later, our intimacy went from a speed bump to Mount Siani. -- June K., Pensacola, Florida

Product Description - This 3-part course (including workbook and 72-minute audio CD) teaches the male student how to have an erection anytime for as long as wanted.

In a simple and workable format, Dr. Runels draws from his experience as physician (having coached hundreds of men in these techniques) and researcher in endocrinology to teach the reader how to not only improve sex but also improve health.

The method taught represents a synergistic mixture of techniques (Integrative Sex Transmutation) drawn from ancient texts (like the Tao of Sexology), philosophers and scientists (like Thoreau and Leonardo da VInci), as well as from modern endocrinology, nutrition, exercise physiology, herbology, and pharmacology.

The CD offers an introduction to the 15-week course, but also gives the woman a tool to gracefully and without offense encourage the man to study this course.

If you follow the workbook as recommended, here's what you'll learn:

Part I gives you a better understanding of what sex transmutation is and how it's been used by great men of the past. You'll hear from Benjamin Franklin, Henry David Thoreau, and others. You'll hear how these men used sex transmutation to improve health, increase intelligence, and find God. You'll hear from Dr. Freud about how Leonardo da Vinci "transmuted sex energy" into genius and inspiration.

You'll also investigate the male sexual response zones. First, the usual diagram is presented. Then, you'll see an expanded diagram that demonstrates new zones which allow you to enjoy orgasm and stimulation for hours at a time. Here's where you'll be introduced to the concept of "sex surfing" in and around the orgasmic zone.

Most men go through their youth and if they discover sex transmutation at all, it's in the latter years after much of the energy of youth has been spent. This book will help you capture that energy.

Practicing "safe sex," (not the focus of this book) like cooking an egg to prevent salmonella, simply means enjoying sex in a way that prevents the development of infectious disease. Practicing sex transmutation is like eating for health and strength with the proper number of calories, protein, fat, and carbohydrates--eating (or having sex) in a way that strengthens the whole organism.

Part 2 of the course describes how to increase sexual desire--how to build the sex energy wave and achieve erection anytime at any age. Here you learn step-by-step how to make your body ever ready to respond.

First, you learn the 2000-year-old technique taught in the Chinese Tao of Sexology: the man's cycle (not the same as refractory period). Next, you learn a basic plan for improving health that specifically increases energy and sexual function and creativity. Eating practices, herbs, and supplements that will supercharge your sex drive are all explained. Not a burden of in-depth science to bore you, just the necessary facts and a workable basic plan that you can use for the rest of your life.

Next, Dr. Runels covers the sex hormones and how to know if your doctor's done an adequate job of measuring yours. Then he explores the prescription drugs (like Viagra, Livitra, and Cialis) and how to get the most result with the least trouble and cost. Next, you get a list of libido killers and a discussion of synergy and sex.

Finally, in part 2, you'll learn practical tips (taken from the writings of the inspired and ingenious of the past) about how to transmute sexual energy into intelligence and inspiration. Here's where you'll hear from Leonardo and from Benjamin Franklin.

Part 3 tells how to ride the wave of sexual desire for as long as you want by having sex and maintaining an erection for as long as you want. This section does more than cure premature ejaculation, it allow you to control ejaculation almost like a light in your house where you can turn it on or off at will.

First, in part 3, Dr. Runels reviews why you would want to have sex for a long time. This review includes an introduction to the nine levels of a woman's orgasm. Most women, when they experience orgasm, really only experience the fourth level. Only by patience, prolonged love making, and a deeper understanding of your partner will you help her to the ninth level of orgasm. Next, you learn how most men teach themselves premature ejaculatation when they practice masturbation and how to use masturbation instead to improve your lovemaking endurance and control.

Finally, you're introduced to the Magic 9 formula for maintaining an erection for as long as you or your mate should desire. While exploring the Magic 9, you can also help your mate explore the nine levels of female orgasm.

Smoley has written that rare book that should exert a strong appeal for Christian and non-Christian readers alike. Highly recommended." - (Library Journal, July 2008)

Edgar Cayce on Soul Mates: Unlocking the Dynamics of Soul Attraction (Paperback) by Kevin J. Todeschi - Product Description - Is there really such a thing as soul mates? According to Edgar Cayce, yes. But his definition of "soul mates," "twin souls," and "perfect partners" may differ from what you're expecting. For decades, Cayce provided thousands of individuals with insights into the nature of their personal relationships. What is unique about Todeschi's book is that it explores the development of relationships over time, played out within the framework of reincarnation. In addition to discussing soul mate relationships, their connection to the cyclic pattern of reincarnation, and the nature of loneliness, this books looks at the fundamentals of soul attraction and provides contemporary examples of the same principles discussed by Cayce.

From the Back Cover - Twin souls, soul mates, perfect partners -- are these images of the ideal relationship just fantasy, or do they have some basis in truth? Does everyone have one perfect relationship that is waiting to be found, or is a "perfect" relationship something that grows and develops over time? Questions like these were posed to Edgar Cayce, who gave some surprising answers. For decades, Cayce provided thousands of individuals with insights into the nature of their personal relationships and the dynamics of soul attraction. Edgar Cayce on Soul Mates explores case histories from the Cayce files on soul mates, friendships, and family relationships and examines what universal laws are at work to draw individuals together.

Only Love Is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited by Brian Weiss - Editorial Reviews - From Booklist Weiss is the psychiatrist whose best-seller, Many Lives, Many Masters (1988), chronicled the life (and past lives) of one of his patients. Since his breakthrough with Catherine, the hypnotized patient who was able to transmit messages from the beyond as well as recall former lifetimes, Weiss has continued his past-life therapies. Here he threads bits and pieces of what he has learned into the story of Elizabeth and Pedro, two patients who, unbeknownst to Weiss, have lost each other across lifetimes and now have another chance to reconnect. Although the stories of Elizabeth and Pedro form the book's centerpiece, they will probably be the least interesting, at least to the New Age audience, who has heard it all before. Weiss is better when he's explaining the philosophy that incorporates past lives into a therapeutic setting. This isn't the best book on the subject, but Many Lives, Many Masters sold more than a million copies, and Weiss' name, as well as an extensive marketing campaign, is likely to generate demand. Ilene Cooper --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review - 'A gripping love story that transcends time... this book makes you truly believe that we all really do have soulmates, and that "only love is real".' (Raymond Moody MD, Author of Life After Death) 'A fascinating story that will open your mind. Explore the mystery, wisdom and wonder of life and love.' (Bernie Siegel MD, Author of Life, Medicine and Miracles) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Sacred Marriage by Gary L. Thomas - Product Description - Starting with the discovery that the goal of marriage goes beyond personal happiness, writer and speaker Gary Thomas invites readers to see how God can use marriage as a discipline and a motivation to love him more and reflect more of the character of his Son.

From the Back Cover - Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person. It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply.

Scores of books have been written that offer guidance for building the marriage of your dreams. But what if God's primary intent for your marriage isn't to make you happy . . . but holy? And what if your relationship isn't as much about you and your spouse as it is about you and God?

Everything about your marriage--everything--is filled with prophetic potential, with the capacity for discovering and revealing Christ's character. The respect you accord your partner; the forgiveness you humbly seek and graciously extend; the ecstasy, awe, and sheer fun of lovemaking; the history you and your spouse build with one another--in these and other facets of your marriage, Sacred Marriage uncovers the mystery of God's overarching purpose.

This book may very well alter profoundly the contours of your marriage. It will most certainly change you. Because whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God, and to a spiritual integrity that, like salt, seasons the world around you with the savor of Christ.

Review - [Dyan Elliott] reveals the deep tensions and ambiguities about sexuality and marriage in the Christian church as attitudes evolved from apostolic times to the sixteenth century. . . . I loved this book for its magnificent scholarship, clarity of expression, provocative ideas, and scholarly modesty. (Penelope D. Johnson American Historical Review)

This is a singular accomplishment. I am not only rapt with admiration at Dyan Elliott's achievement but greatly in her debt for the contribution she makes to our understanding of the Christian sexual tradition. (n Boswell, Yale University)

A penetrating study for a wide scholarly audience on the place of women, marriage, and sexuality in Christianity from Augustine to the Renaissance. . . . Using spiritual marriage as a prism, Elliott is able to examine the themes of sacramental theology, female spirituality, sin, sexuality, and gender relations. (Philip F. Riley History)

Elliot masterfully examines why female spirituality was perceived as a threat to the church and society at large, challenging the boundaries of sanctity and heresy. . . . By tracing the downward trajectory of holy women through medieval society's progressive reliance on inquisitional procedure, Elliot argues that inquisitional mechanisms for assessing female spirituality created confusion between the saintly and the heretical; these efforts to constrain female spirituality were part of a larger program of constraining women. The Book of Secrets: Keys to Love and Meditation by Osho - Editorial Reviews - "These techniques will not mention any religious ritual. No temple is needed, you are quite enough of a temple yourself. You are the lab; the whole experiment is to go on within you. This is not religion, this is science. No belief is needed. Only a daringness to experiment is enough; courage to experiment is enough.

These 112 methods are for the whole of humanity-for all the ages that have passed, and for all the ages that have yet to come. I will go on describing each method from as many angles as possible. If you feel any affinity with it, play with it for three days. If you feel that it fits, that something clicks in you, continue it for three months.

Life is a miracle. If you have not known its mystery, that only shows that you do not know the technique for how to approach it." --Osho -- Review

The Tao of Sexology: The Book of Infinite Wisdom by Stephen Thomas Chang - Customer Review - An eye-opening book about the spirituality of sex, December 4, 1998 - It's an incredible book about human sexuality - not mere sex. It talks about the OTHER 95% of our sexual energy - the life force, the creative power we have within us. It is easy to read and a delight doing so. I finished it in one eye-opening night! --By A Customer

Taoist Secrets of Love: Cultivating Male Sexual Energy by Mantak Chia - Product Description - Hidden for centuries, the esoteric techniques and principles presented here make the process of linking sexual energy and transcendent states of consciousness accessible to the reader.

Taoist Yoga and Sexual Energy; Internal Alchemy and Chi Kung by Eric Yudelove and Eric Steven Yudelove - Product Description - When most people think of the term yoga, they think of the body-stretching techniques from India. But there are many different forms of yoga, including techniques practiced in secret by the Taoist masters in the Far East. Some of the most important, yet previously secret techniques of Taoist Alchemy and Sexual Kung Fu are revealed for the first time by Taoist Master Eric Steven Yudelove in Taoist Yoga and Sexual Energy.

This is not just a book, it is an entire, fourteen-week course in alchemy, healing, and magick. Perhaps the most important part of this is learning how to manipulate the body's mysterious energies. In order to do this you will learn many breathing techniques, including hair breathing, reverse breathing, bone marrow breathing, and several more. You'll learn the amazing secrets of Chi Gung, including standing, sitting, lying, and moving forms.

In the West, most people think of sounds as merely being music or, when put together in words, a way to communicate. But here you will learn that there are six special healing sounds. Each is associated with a body organ (or, more accurately, the functioning of that organ which may involve other part of the body) and five of them are associated with a color and element. If you don't know, the Taoist elements are different from the Western elements and consist of earth, fire, water, wood, and metal.

These healing sounds are very simple. They are: S-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s, Ch-u-w-a-a-y, Sh-h-h-h-h-h, H-a-w-w-w-w, Wh-o-o-o-o and H-e-e-e-e. The proper way to use them for healing yourself is clearly explained in Taoist Yoga and Sexual Energy.

As the title of the book shows, this book is also about working with the sexual energy. You will learn breathing techniques, visualizations, and massage methods that will allow you and your partner to experience bliss beyond your wildest imagination!

Now is the time for you to investigate improving your life. This book can lead the way.

From the Publisher - For decades, Llewellyn has been one of the leading publishers of books on Western Spirituality. But as phones get cheaper to use, as fax machines and e-mail proliferate, the world becomes smaller and smaller. In the past, some occultists have suggested that you might best evolve within the major spiritual paradigm of the area of your birth. I think it is time to move beyond that, don't you? As Marshall McLuhan suggested, we now live in a "global village." I believe it is time to start thinking in terms of universal spirituality instead of limiting ourselves.

Even the Golden Dawn used ideas taken from the East. You can follow their example far more easily thanks to books such as Eric Steven Yudelove's Taoist Yoga and Sexual Energy. This is one of the clearest and most explicit descriptions of Taoist magical practices I've ever seen. The author, recognized as a Taoist Master by his teacher of 20 years, Mantak Chia, presents an entire system of working with the body's natural energies so that you can accomplish just about anything.

Perhaps learning how to move the energy is the most important aspect of this book. Here it is clearly explained, using over 130 illustrations so that you can more easily learn the specialized methods of breath, visualization, and physical positions. You will also learn healing techniques that you can use on yourself or share with others.

And working with a particular partner is where this book really shines. For the secrets of Taoist Sexual Kung Fu are very comparable to the innermost secrets of Tantra. You will learn how to arouse the sexual energy; direct it in yourself and your partner; spiritualize it; and then bathe yourself in it. This leads to states of mystical and sexual bliss that will take you far beyond anything you have done before.

If you have not looked at Eastern spirituality before, this book can introduce it to you. If you are familiar with Taoism, this book is a must!

Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body: Chi Gung for Lifelong Health (Tao of Energy Enhancement) (Paperback) by Bruce Frantzis - Product Description - "This extraordinary book, written by one of the West's greatest living masters, offers nothing less than a course in the miracle of our own energy field. Bruce Frantzis has translated ancient Taoist practices into a modern program that manages to be both highly accessible and transformational, affording us all the opportunity to experience the wonder of the Tao firsthand." --Lynne McTaggart, author of The Field and What Doctors Don't Tell You

"A must for those who are new to chi gung, those who are already practitioners, and anyone interested in complementary medicine or self-help." --Angela Hicks, Co-founder of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading, England, and author of The Acupuncture Handbook

"This remarkable book has become a classic. Mr. Frantzis' biography alone is worth the price of admission." --Stephen E. Langer M.D., Berkeley, California, President of the American Nutritional Medical Association and author of Solved: The Riddle of Illness

Product Description - Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body introduces the key concepts of chi gung in a manner both accessible and understandable to Westerners. With fascinating insights gained from years of training in Asia as a warrior, healer, and priest, Bruce Frantzis demystifies the concept of "chi," the body's vital energy life force, and shows why this 3000-year-old system of self-healing works. The book provides a set of enjoyable, low impact exercises that readers can learn on their own, including standing chi gung, a core exercise that effectively boosts performance for martial artists, athletes, business people, and others. Body alignments and Taoist breathing, fundamentals that are the foundation of all Taoist energy practices, are also taught, with special alignments that benefit those who must sit for long periods of time. The book also reveals how chi gung can enhance other forms of exercise, from yoga and Pilates to golf and basketball.
